Pilates is a mental and physical body-conditioning programme which uses exercises to change the way we use our bodies. It aims to change muscle recruitment patterns and to correct common muscle imbalances, restoring good postural alignment and natural normal movement.

Joseph Pilates developed the Pilates Method over 90 years ago. He designed a series of precise, controlled, body movements. There are 31 exercises in the 'full mat', which is the classic Pilates set.

The purpose of these exercises is to correct bad movement patterns, improve posture, increase strength and flexibility, reduce stress and reduce the chances of injury, fatigue and aches and pains. Body Control Pilates has taken the original 'full mat' exercises developed by Joseph Pilates and has broken them down into simpler exercises which when combined, complete each stage
up to formation of the classic movements. This allows anyone to do Body Control Pilates regardless of their level of fitness or body type. It is a progressive, building block approach with great emphasis on the safety of the client.

The Body Control Pilates Method has been known to help back pain, joint pains, sports injuries and stress. It is recommended by practitioners of both complimentary and conventional medicine and is used by top celebrities and athletes. The method is an excellent form of exercise for both men and women.
